August 2021 product update: Small improvements lead to big impact

August was a quiet end to the summer, but it wasn’t without news. Teachable was busy working away at rolling out a series of product updates and improvements to make running your business seamless. Most of these improvements came from requests we’ve heard directly from you, the creator. From an improved Coaching experience that keeps you content protected to a smarter way to upload your files, these are the August 2021 product updates.

Coach smarter

We’ve recently improved our video player, so we can give you and your students a better experience using the Coaching product. The video upload workflow remains the same (and there’s no need to take action to enable this feature) but delivers a number of new benefits to Coaches and students:

Enhanced piracy protection

Expect the same functionality as before with our new video player, but with some enhanced piracy protection. Videos will now be harder to download or repurpose without your consent, meaning your work will be safer.

New notes feature

This new feature allows both the student and creator to leave “notes” or comments on the uploaded video at different time intervals. These notes will only be visible to the writer of the note, so your students can take notes and learn however is best for them.

Keep it simple with coupons

You spoke up and we answered. Last month, we released an update to coupons to address a long-standing creator paint point. Previously, if you created a coupon with a specific code, that code was “locked in.”

This meant you couldn’t reuse your code. This, of course, put creators in a tough spot if you made a mistake or simply wanted to use that code for a different discount.

With our most recent update, we have made two changes:

  • “Has this code been used?” messaging now only applies to non-deleted coupons: When a creator deletes a coupon, that action “unlocks” the code. This means you can make a new coupon with using that same code.
  • “Restore” button removal: We removed the “Restore” button on the deleted coupon table, which allowed creators to re-publish a deleted coupon. Now, you can make a new coupon if you want to reuse a deleted coupon.

Easier uploads and options

We’ve recently implemented a new upload tool to our Page Editor 2.0 that provides greater development flexibility to help us meet creators’ evolving needs. You’ll be able to upload videos and images from a number of sources, including your own local storage, Google Docs, Dropbox, and OneDrive.

No action is required to see this update in action. For further instructions on uploading videos and images on Teachable, check out this article in our Knowledge Base

Return to free

In addition, we recently rolled out a free plan option at Teachable. You can now publish your courses and enroll an unlimited number of students—without joining a paid plan, at no cost and with no credit card required. Teachable’s Free Plan gives you access to powerful features you need to start creating and selling online courses and coaching products.

Free plan creators have access to:

  • Unlimited students. No need to cap enrollment.
  • Unlimited products. Create as many courses and coaching services as you want.
  • Course design templates. Use them to create cohesive, professional-looking courses.
  • Basic quizzes. Test your students’ knowledge.
  • CSS snippets. Customize your school’s look and functionality.
  • Email lead capture. Keep potential customers interested.
  • Email support. Customer care isn’t just for paying customers.
  • And more (see the full list)

Bottom line: We want you to start creating and sharing now. The Free Plan lets creators of all sizes do just that. Create a course or coaching product, start selling, and start sharing your knowledge. If later down the line, you want to scale up and start using more advanced features, you can easily upgrade your plan without losing any progress

As always, these updates are just the beginning. We’ll be releasing more updates and improvements in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to the blog and our social media channels to stay on top of the latest Teachable news.
